Founded in 1992, The Shepherd's Godparent Home is located in a
quiet residential neighborhood in Bangor, Maine. Our doors opened to
residents in 2003. The Shepherd's Godparent Home houses young women
in their teens and twenties who are pregnant and in crisis.
We believe when you enter our Home, you will feel a sense of
belonging and will adapt easily to the "homey:";; surroundings. This
sense of security and safety will assist you in making the important
decisions which you will face in the near future.
If you are in your teens and twenties and pregnant, you have some
difficult decisions to make about your future and that of your baby.
Your baby's heartbeat can be heard at just 18 days after
conception, according to the latest medical facts. By twelve weeks of
age, your baby will be fully formed and recognizable as a tiny human

the Home is filled with activities such as academic classes, life
skills and job skills training, crafts, devotionals, parenting

- Referrals made for practical counseling on an individual basis
to a community-based professional counselor.
- Decision-making classes exploring both adoption and parenting
choices in depth.
The Shepherd's Godparent Home seeks to fulfill specific
educational goals geared toward your immediate needs.
- Academic classes are primarily focused on maintaining the core
academic requirements for your grade level.
- If you wish to prepare for the G.E.D. exam, assistance is
available in the community and with our tutor.
Costs for You and Your Family
The Shepherd's Godparent Home provides your room, meals and education
at no cost. This is made available to our clients through the
generosity of donors, churches and other groups who support us
faithfully on a regular basis. We are a tax-exempt, non-profit
Preparation for Parenting
If parenting is your choice, we will endeavor to provide you with the
tools you need for this important responsibility. Parenting classes
are required and available locally and within our home. Our staff
will provide you with transportation.
Our Home is recognized as a homeless shelter by Maine State Housing
Authority. This recognition is helpful in achieving housing
assistance once you leave our programs.
A new transitional program for new mothers who have resided in The
Godparent Home. In our Nikki's Hope transitional apartment, our
residents have the opportunity to gain independence while being
supported and maturing in their parenting and faith.
