The Shepherd's Godparent Home

If you are in an unplanned pregnancy and in your teens to mid-twenties, you have some difficult decisions to make about your future and the future of your baby.

A baby's heartbeat can be heard just 18 days after conception according to the latest medical facts.  By 12 weeks, your baby will be fully formed and recognizable as a tiny human being.

No matter what your situation, doesn't your unborn baby deserve a chance at life?

Founded in 1992, The Shepherd’s Godparent Home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Bangor, Maine.  It took several years to select just the right property for our organization.  We learned at the time of purchase that the house had been used as a residential maternity home for unwed mothers 100 years ago.

We believe when you enter our Home, you will feel a sense of belonging and will adapt easily to the homey surroundings.  This sense of security will assist you in making the important decisions which you will face in the near future.

Life at the Shepherd’s Godparent Home will be both encouraging and challenging to you.  Our Houseparents and staff are committed to loving both you and your unborn baby unconditionally.  The daily schedule at the Home is filled with activities such as academic classes, educational field trips, life skills training, crafts and much more.

Counseling  Only you can decide what is best for you and your baby.  We are here to help.  The Shepherd's Godparent Home provides:

Practical counseling on an individual and group basis.
Decision- making classes exploring both adoption and parenting choices in depth.
If desired, a referral will be made for community-based professional counseling.

Educational Opportunities   The Shepherd's Godparent Home is a boarding school of Bangor Christian Schools.  We seek to fulfill specific educational goals geared toward your immediate needs.
Academic classes are primarily focused on maintaining the core academic requirements for your grade level.
If you wish to prepare for the G.E.D. exam, assistance is available in the community.

Medical Care  Good medical care is a priority for both you and your baby.  All your medical payment arrangements are made directly with the doctor and the hospital.  While we do not finance the medical portion of a client's care, we will be glad to help explore all options prior to enrolling in the program.

Costs for You and Your Family

The Shepherd's Godparent Home provides your room, meals, and education at no cost.  This is made available to our clients through the generosity of donors, churches and other groups who support us faithfully on a regular basis.  We are a tax-exempt, non-profit organization.

Preparation for Parenting

If parenting is your choice, we will endeavor to provide you with the tools you need for this important responsibility.  Parenting classes are available locally and our staff will provide you with this information if you are interested.

Adoption Services

Adoption is the choice made by many girls in unplanned pregnancy.  We want to support you in any informed decision that you make.  If adoption is your choice, the Shepherd's Godparent Home can refer you to agencies which will allow you to select from a number of wonderful families who have been approved by those agencies.  Private adoptions are also available through the services of an attorney.
